It's easy to see God in the joyful and beautiful: sunrises, the laughter of babies, a promotion at work. But what about seeing God in the painful and ugly? Where is God in a the death of a loved one? Where is God in a chronic illness? Where is God in a pandemic?
Isaiah sees God at work in an unexpected place: the brutal conquest by a foreign king. Perhaps if we look, we may be able to see God in the worst and ugliest places of life--maybe even in the face of a man dying on a cross.
