The Story We Tell

The stories that we tell have a profound impact on our lives. Those stories determine everything from our priorities to the people we choose to associate with to the way we treat ourselves and one another. Fredrick Bueckner wrote: "If you want to know who you are apart from who you think you are, watch where your feet take you."

Where do your feet take you? What do you consistently choose as most important in your life? What kind of people do you choose to surround yourself with? What do you think about the people who seem to be on the opposite side from you?

Now consider this: What do those things say about the story you live by? Is that a story that God would want to tell?

JESUS MAFA is a response to the New Testament readings from the Lectionary by a Christian community in Cameroon. Each of the readings was selected and adapted to dramatic interpretation by the community members. Photographs of their interpretations were made, and these were then transcribed to paintings.
