This Ash Wednesday observence is not how it should be, but that's also kind of the point: the whole service is about how the world is not as it should be. Where do you see brokenness in this world? In what ways have you been complacent with that brokenness? In what ways have you contributed to it?
In spite of all our brokenness and failings, God still has a vision for the way things should be, and there is a place in that vision for us. We hope for that vision of the world today.
