If our image of God is of a deity that demands obedience with the threat of condemnation, then that is probably how we will treat others: we'll try to make them do what is right. We will use force or coercion or persuasion to get the response we seek, and when we don't, we react with anger and blame. Jesus offers another way, a way that is both much easier, and also much harder. What does "abiding" look like within the Church?
