The Circle of Welcome is a program for faith and community groups to make a meaningful commitment to walk alongside a refugee or refugee family as they begin to rebuild their lives here. It is a partnership between the family, the local resettlement agency and the Circle of Welcome Team.
In 2018, Agnus Dei and Peninsula Lutheran Churches worked together with Lutheran Community Services-Northwest to sponsor and support a family relocate here from El Salvador. We are now forming a team to sponsor another family. Please call the office if you would like to be part of the team.
Volunteers meet weekly through the school year to fill bags with weekend food for the students in our district who experience food insecurity. Help is needed to sort donations, fill the bags and deliver them to our nearby schools for distribution. Donations of food and funds are always needed to keep the cupboards stocked.
During this time of quarantine the model has shifted to provide food throughout the summer as well.
Do you enjoy gardening or fix-it projects? Tasks like painting and pulling weeds are always more fun when done in fellowship and there are many little jobs around the church to put your skills and talents to good use! As one of our members says, "Curb appeal is just one more form of evangelism!"
Projects for Lutheran World Relief happen throughout the year. We collect items and assemble School Kits and Baby Kits, quilters meet twice a month to assemble quilts that are shipped to where ever they are most needed.
Dining for Women’s mission is to empower women and girls living in extreme poverty by funding programs that foster good health, education, and economic self-sufficiency and to cultivate educational giving circles that inspire individuals to make a positive difference through the power of collective giving. The Gig Harbor Chapter of Dining for Women meets monthly on the third Thursday at 12:00. Women are invited to share a meal, learn about the featured program of the month and contribute directly to that cause.
From health clinics to microloans, water wells to animal husbandry, community meals to advocacy, gifts to ELCA World Hunger make it possible for the ELCA to respond, supporting sustainable solutions that get at the root causes of hunger and poverty. Agnus Dei has a long history of supporting causes that will help bring an end to hunger in our local community and worldwide.
Each month our Outreach Committee chooses an area of focus for our congregation. One month it was providing a water well, another month it was a coat drive for the Tacoma Rescue Mission. Every January we hold a Toilet Paper drive for FISH, our local Food Bank.
